Sophia Loren

Sophia Loren was born on September 20, 1934 in Rome, Italy. Her given name was Sofia Scicolone. Her father was an interesting man because he refused to marry her mother even though she gave birth to two of his children. This meant that she grew up in a home with a single mother, and her father did not help her mother in any way. She got her start from entering a beauty contest when she was only 14 years old. She became one of the finalists in this competition, and this was where she was discovered. She was discovered by Carlo Ponti, who was a movie producer. They ended up getting married even though he was 22 years older than she was.

In the beginning, Sophia Loren started her career by playing extras in movies. Finally, after being in ten movies where she was an extra, she began playing some of the supporting roles. By the time she was 18 years old, she was playing the lead roles in many of the Italian films that were being produced. She started acting in the United States in 1957. She did not receive an award for her acting until she went back to make movies in Italy. There, she played the lead role in the movie that was entitled Two Women. Originally, she was cast to play the daughter in this film, but she instead pushed to play the role of the mother. She ended up winning an Academy Award for her role in this film.

Sophia Loren still receives awards for the movies that she has made. She typically travels between Los Angeles and Switzerland in order to spend time with her sons and their children. She was married only to Carlo Ponti during her lifetime though she was said to have had a fling with the famous actor Cary Grant.
